Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Law University (DBALU), Jaipur is Rajasthan’s first dedicated state law university established to regulate, affiliate, and promote legal education across the state.
The university was established under the Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Law University, Jaipur Act, 2019 enacted by the Government of Rajasthan. As a result, DBALU functions as a residential-cum-affiliating university for law colleges in Rajasthan. In addition, it is responsible for maintaining legal education standards, examinations, curriculum, and research.
Further, the University Grants Commission (UGC) recognizes DBALU under Section 2(f) of the UGC Act, 1956. Moreover, the Bar Council of India (BCI) governs its law programmes. Therefore, graduates from DBALU-affiliated and BCI-approved law programmes can enroll with the State Bar Council and practise law after clearing the All India Bar Examination (AIBE).
As of April 2026, the university continues to expand its academic and research framework in constitutional law, criminal justice, public policy, legal governance, and judicial studies. At the same time, it is strengthening its role as Rajasthan’s principal affiliating law university.
