Introduction to ULET

The University Law Entrance Test (ULET) is a state-level entrance examination conducted annually by the University of Rajasthan (UNIRAJ) for admission to the 3-year LLB program. It serves as the primary gateway for aspiring law students to enroll at the University Law College and University Law College Centre-II (Self-Finance Scheme) in Jaipur. The exam evaluates candidates’ knowledge in general awareness, constitutional principles, social sciences, sciences, and language proficiency through objective questions. With a total of 660 seats available (including reservations for EWS), admissions are merit-based solely on ULET scores, followed by centralized counseling. The test aligns with Bar Council of India (BCI) norms and emphasizes foundational skills for legal education.

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for ULET, candidates must satisfy the following:

  • Educational Qualification: A bachelor’s or master’s degree in any discipline (Arts, Commerce, Science, Engineering, Management, Nursing, Agriculture, or equivalent like Shastri/Acharya) from a recognized university. Rajasthan residents need a minimum of 45% aggregate marks (40% for SC/ST, 42% for OBC/MBC). Candidates from outside Rajasthan require 60% aggregate. Final-year students are eligible provisionally, subject to meeting the criteria upon results.

  • Age Limit: As per BCI guidelines—no upper age limit.

  • Nationality: Indian citizens only. Domicile-based relaxations apply to marks for Rajasthan residents. Candidates must ensure accurate documentation; discrepancies lead to disqualification. Reservations follow Rajasthan state norms for SC, ST, OBC, EWS, MBC, and PwD categories.

ULET Exam Pattern and Marking Scheme

ULET is an offline (pen-and-paper) exam held in Jaipur, lasting 1.5 to 2 hours (typically 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM). It features 150 multiple-choice questions (MCQs), each worth 1 mark, for a total of 150 marks. There is no negative marking, and unanswered questions score zero. The medium is bilingual (English and Hindi).

The paper covers five core sections, with approximately 30 questions per section: General Knowledge, Social Science, General Science, Indian Constitution, and General English. Questions test factual recall, analytical thinking, and basic comprehension, with no sectional time limits. Sample papers and syllabus details are available on the official website to familiarize candidates with the format.

Syllabus For ULET

The ULET syllabus is undergraduate-level, focusing on interdisciplinary knowledge essential for law studies. It is divided into five sections:

  • General Knowledge: Current affairs (national/international, especially Rajasthan-specific), history, geography, economy, polity, sports, awards, and books/authors.

  • Social Science: Indian freedom struggle, world history, civics, economics (basic concepts like GDP, inflation), sociology, and Rajasthan’s culture/heritage.

  • General Science: Physics (mechanics, electricity), Chemistry (elements, reactions), Biology (human anatomy, environment), and everyday science applications.

  • Indian Constitution: Preamble, fundamental rights/duties, directive principles, structure of government (Union/State), amendments, judiciary, and emergency provisions.

  • General English: Grammar (tenses, prepositions, synonyms/antonyms), vocabulary, comprehension passages, sentence correction, and idioms/phrases.

Hindi grammar and basic legal aptitude may also feature in some questions. Candidates should refer to the official prospectus for unit-wise topics and practice with previous years’ papers.

ULET Results and Merit List

Results were announced on July 16, 2025, on admissions.univraj.org/uletPanel, accessible via roll number and date of birth. Scorecards detail total marks and qualifying status. The merit list ranks candidates category-wise based on ULET scores alone. Ties are resolved by higher graduation marks, followed by age (older preferred). Only top scorers meeting category cut-offs proceed to counseling.

Counselling and Admission Process

Counseling is offline, conducted in multiple rounds at the University Law College, Jaipur, for seat allotment. Shortlisted candidates must:

  1. Register online post-results and pay a counseling fee (if applicable).

  2. Attend with originals for verification (graduation marksheets, ULET scorecard, category/domicile certificates, ID proof, transfer/character certificates).

  3. Select preferences for colleges (University Law College: 300 seats; Centre-II: 360 seats).

  4. Receive provisional allotment based on merit and availability.

  5. Pay admission fees (approximately ₹9,770 total for the program, including tuition) to confirm.

Spot rounds fill vacancies. Failure to attend forfeits claims. The process ensures fair distribution per reservation quotas.

Seats and Cut-offs

ULET offers 660 seats for the 3-year LLB: 300 at University Law College and 360 at University Law College Centre-II (including 10% supernumerary for EWS).

Approximate Round 1 cut-offs for 2025 (out of 150):

  • Unreserved: 105–110 marks

  • OBC: 98–102 marks

  • EWS: 100–105 marks

  • SC: 85–90 marks

  • ST: 80–85 marks

  • MBC: 92–97 marks

Cut-offs fluctuate based on applicant numbers (around 5,000–6,000 annually) and exam difficulty, lowering in subsequent rounds.

Preparation Tips
  • Build a strong foundation in the syllabus using NCERT books for Social Science, Science, and Constitution; Lucent’s GK for current affairs (focus on Rajasthan).

  • Practice 150-question mocks daily to manage 1.5-hour timing—aim for 120+ correct answers.

  • Recommended resources: RS Aggarwal for reasoning (if included), Wren & Martin for English, and previous ULET papers from uniraj.ac.in.

  • Dedicate time to weak areas like Constitution (20–25% weightage) and read The Hindu/Indian Express for GK.

  • Join online forums or coaching for doubt clearance; consistent 4–5 hours of daily study with weekly revisions yields results. Self-study suffices for most.
